MCCC Board Members Give Back
Penn Parking
MCCC Board Member Penn Parking CEO Lisa Renshaw is excited to announce that her company is now joining the fight against Coronavirus by creating protective face shields for her employees and healthcare workers in the state of Maryland.
There have been reports of demands for the masks all over the country, and is likely to continue if demand exceeds available supplies. These shields will provide greater protection when used in conjunction with the masks. Renshaw listened to the needs of the community, and quickly made the decision to find out what materials were needed to create the masks, and then asked her employees to begin making them last week.
The masks will be going to hospitals in Maryland, and wherever else they are needed.
"This time of uncertainly presses on everyone – the young and elderly. But it is a great unifier for our country – spanning from business to government, for everyone to get involved and step up. This is our way to shine some light in these difficult times," Renshaw concluded.

Kaiser Permanente Health Plan of the Mid-Atlantic States
As the surge of patients with COVID-19 approaches the mid-Atlantic region, Kaiser Permanente is making significant changes to help the health system and the community prepare. The health system today announced several changes to how it will provide health care services to the increasing number of people with COVID-19 as well as to people with other health conditions that require care during the pandemic.
The outbreak of COVID-19 has already led Kaiser Permanente to vastly expand its virtual care services across the region. The health system is converting all possible in-person appointments to virtual (phone or video). Over the past several weeks, Kaiser Permanente’s mid-Atlantic region has increased virtual appointments from 19 percent at the beginning of March to more than 85 percent at the end of the month. The health system is currently providing more than 9,000 virtual visits daily, allowing its nearly 770,000 members in the region to access physicians and care team members from the safety of their homes. Additionally, non-urgent surgeries and procedures have been postponed for several weeks in another effort to dramatically decrease visits to its facilities. |
The COVID-19 pandemic continues to demonstrate that unmet social needs are barriers to health and wellbeing for many Americans. In Washington, D.C., Maryland, and Virginia, more than 1.5 million people have filed for unemployment due to the pandemic – with many facing food insecurity, homelessness, and many other challenges. To address these vital social health needs, Kaiser Permanente has partnered with Unite Us to launch the Mid-Atlantic Community Network (MACN), a comprehensive community resource linking social service organizations, health care providers, and public agencies in the region. The new network launched in Washington, D.C. and suburban Maryland this month with expansion planned to Baltimore in late 2020, and to Northern Virginia in 2021.
As part of its nationwide commitment to addressing social health needs, Kaiser Permanente is providing free access to this community network for all non-profit organizations, community clinics, and hospitals. Learn more here. |
Precise Software Solutions, Inc.
In an effort to offer meaningful assistance to the community in response to the COVID-19 crisis, Precise Software Solutions, Inc. (Precise), has donated $15,000 to the Manna Food Center.
Manna is a local non-profit whose mission is to end hunger in Montgomery County through food distribution, education, and advocacy. Precise is offering a donation challenge wherein the company will match donations to Manna up to an additional $15,000. We encourage you to join this effort to support Manna and the good work they are doing to help address this growing crisis. CONTEMPORARIES, Inc.Each month, MCCC Board Member Erin Allen and her team at Contemporaries, Inc raise funds for an organization that has fallen on hard times amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. April's organization of choice is The Children's Inn at NIH.
Contemporaries has been providing staffing support to the National Institutes of Health (NIH) since 1991 and has been volunteering to cook meals at The Children’s Inn since 2018. When they learned The Children’s Inn was forced to cancel their largest fundraiser event of the year, it was an easy decision for Contemporaries to select this organization for April. The Children's Inn at NIH is a private, nonprofit residence for families and their children who are participating in pediatric research at the National Institutes of Health's Clinical Center. During fiscal year 2019, The Children's Inn housed 1,509 families for a total of 12,079 nights. These families rely on The Children's Inn for free, family-centered accommodations, hot meals, and much more. Please join the Contemporaries, Inc. team in helping raise funds so The Children's Inn can continue serving these families. Contemporaries, Inc. will match all funds raised up to $7,000. |
Marriott InternationalWith support from our credit card partners, American Express and JPMorgan Chase, Marriott has committed to provide $10 million worth of hotel stays for healthcare professionals leading the fight against COVID-19 in the United States. The initiative, called Rooms for Responders, will provide free rooms in some of the areas most impacted including New York City, New Orleans, Chicago, Detroit, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Washington, D.C. and Newark, N.J. To implement this initiative, we collaborated with the American College of Emergency Physicians and the Emergency Nurses Association to match doctors and nurses with free accommodations at participating hotels.
In a separate effort for frontline healthcare workers, we have joined with a number of our hotel owners and franchisee partners to launch the Community Caregiver Program. This initiative, available in the United States, Canada, the Caribbean and Latin America, provides significantly discounted rates for first responders and healthcare professionals who want to book rooms at hotels in close proximity to the hospitals where they’re working. The rate is available on Marriott.com at nearly 2,500 hotels. With both initiatives, our goal is simple – we want to support the frontline heroes who are selflessly supporting us. Many of our properties have contributed by providing food, pre-packed and cooked meals to crisis relief efforts and much-needed supplies like cleaning products, masks, gloves, anti-microbial wipes, sanitizers and shower caps for medical and other frontline workers. And in a beautiful sign of solidarity among us all, many of our teams have illuminated their hotel windows with symbols of love and messages of hope (some of these images are at the top of this email.) |
