GSA Procurement Forum Recap

The Montgomery County Department of Economic Development (DED) in partnership with Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce (MCCC) hosted the GSA Procurement Forum on Tuesday, October 29th at the Silver Spring Civic Building.

The GSA presented procurement initiatives to meet its mission “to deliver the best value in real estate, acquisition, and technology services to government and the American people.” More than 200 businesses received access to experts in key areas through panel presentations and breakout sessions.

Special guest Montgomery County Executive Isiah Leggett, Steve Silverman, Director, Montgomery County Department of Economic Development and Gigi Godwin, President & CEO, Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce provided welcome remarks.

Hope A. Lane, Partner, Aronson LLC, expertly moderated a panel discussion featuring Bill Sisk, Deputy Commissioner of the Federal Acquisition Service of the U.S. General Services, Alfonso Finley, Regional Commissioner, Federal Acquisition Service of the Nation Capital Region, and Roger Waldron, President of the Coalition for Government Procurement. They discussed key issues in government contracting, notably small business subcontracting plans, strategic sourcing, contract pricing and  level of service.

Tami Riggs, Assistant Commissioner of the Office of Customer Accounts and Research, Federal Acquisition Service at GSA introduced the four expert services breakout sessions and GSA presenters. Given the popularity of each topic, concurrent breakout sessions were repeated. Click the links below to view the breakout session presentations.

  • Professional Services: Jim Ghiloni, Director, OASIS Program Management Office shared insight into GSA’s new OASIS contract.
  • Sustainable Buildings: Erika Larsen, Sustainability Program Manager, Green Proving Ground Program and Kevin Kampschroer, Director, Office of Federal High Performance Green Buildings discussed GSA’s green initiatives in high performing buildings.
  • Office of Small Business Utilization (OSBU): Tony Eiland, Mentor Protégé Program Manager presented the requirements for program mentors and the benefits to small business owners who participate as protégés. Christy Lorenda-Jackiewicz, Outreach Program Manager gave insight into ways small businesses can market their products and services to federal agencies.
  • IT Services: Experts gave a presentation about Government Wide Acquisition Contracts (GWAC), IT Schedule 70, and the IT Solutions Navigator Tool. Speakers included Chris Fornecker, Program Management Officer (GWAC), Angela Jones, Director, IT Market Development Division (IT Schedule 70), and Lillian Miller, IT Specialist (IT Solutions Navigator Tool).

Exhibitors representing MCCC’s GovConNet Council, MCCC and the Montgomery County Department of Economic Development provided participants with resources for government contractors.
