National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST)
to Receive Public Safety Government Partner of the Year Award
at the Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce Public Safety Awards Luncheon

Rockville, MD – The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) will receive the Public Safety Government Partner of the Year award at the Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce Public Safety Awards Luncheon. Award sponsor Motorola Solutions, Inc. will present the award at the Bethesda North Marriott Hotel & Conference Center on Friday, March 11, 2016.

"Motorola Solutions is honored to present the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) with the Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce Public Safety Government Partner of the Year award. NIST has a long history of collaborating with government and industry to establish security and technology standards for the safety of first responders and the communities they serve,” said Michael Leonard, Vice President, Sales and Services, Mid-Atlantic Region, Motorola Solutions, Inc.

For over a decade, NIST has been a steadfast federal public safety partner as an advocate for the research and training of the fire and rescue service and law enforcement communities.

Montgomery County’s Department of Police and the Sheriffs’ Office have utilized the NIST campus for the purposes of conducting canine training: basic patrol, explosives searches, tracking, agility skills, maintenance training, and routine certifications.

For the Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service and beyond, NIST has driven revolutionary changes in standards applicable to structural firefighting gear and electronic safety equipment.

“We’re honored to be recognized by the Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce with this award,” said Willie E. May, Under Secretary of Commerce for Standards and Technology and NIST Director. “Fire fighters, police officers, and other public safety personnel put their lives on the line for us every day. We are fortunate to have industry and government partners like Montgomery County who help to ensure NIST’s research results and standards work benefits these public safety heroes as much as possible.”

The Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce Public Safety Awards Luncheon is the one day set aside each year for the business community to thank and honor our heroic Montgomery County public safety first responders for protecting our families and businesses every day. Valor Awards, a Public Safety Corporate Vital Link award, a Government Partner of the Year award, agency Unit Citations, and a Community Service award will be presented at the ceremony. The largest event of its kind in the region, this is a special day to thank those who keep us safe.
