Mike Binko of Startup Maryland | kloudtrack Receives MCCC Spirit of Free Enterprise Award On November 20, 2014

ROCKVILLE, MDThe Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce (MCCC) honors Mike Binko, Founder | president of Startup Maryland and president | CEO of kloudtrack® with The Spirit of Free Enterprise Award at the MCCC annual Business Awards Dinner on Thursday, November 20.

The Spirit of Free Enterprise Award is presented to an individual or company that has been successful in business, a leader in promoting free enterprise and a competitive business climate and actively involved in making Montgomery County a great place to live and work.

“From our nascent stages as a bootstrapping startup on Woodmont Avenue in Bethesda to our current operations location on Executive Blvd. in the heart of Rockville’s Tech Corridor, we have found abundant resources, proximity to critical industries and influencers as well as work-life balance in Montgomery County,” stated Binko.

kloudtrack® is a cybersecurity and cloud computing (Cyber|Cloud) company that integrates best-practice management and audit-trails that place a premium on monitoring users, collaborations and risks related to sensitive data assets and processes.  kloudtrack® is one of the first providers to address industry-specific governance, risk and compliance (GRC) standards in Cyber|Cloud environments across multiple vertical industries.  Sectors include fin-serv (SEC/FINRA/Basel Accords/FED), health-medical (HIPAA/CCHIT/FDA-REMS) and government (FIPS/FISMA/FedRAMP), and many others. This understanding and integration of GRC factors and certifications sets kloudtrack® technologies, solutions and IP apart in the market and is now available via the Innovation Sandbox ecosystem.

Binko joined kloudtrack® with a round of early stage equity capital.  Binko orchestrated the vision behind several considerable “pivots” kloudtrack® made in recent years.  These included moving from a direct sales to a multi-tiered channel sales model, adding selected vertical industries, re-branding the company and technology as kloudtrack®, driving to profitability, strategic corporate development initiatives with stalwart industry leaders such as Cisco Systems and developing the concepts of Cloud 2.0, The Human Side of Compliance, Start Small … and Scale

Binko is a Founder | president of Startup Maryland. Founded in 2012, Startup Maryland was launched out of the Startup America Partnership to give entrepreneurs the opportunity to network and gain guidance from business leaders across the state. During Startup Maryland’s annual ‘Pitch Across Maryland’ tour and celebration of innovation entrepreneurs board a customized bus equipped with a video studio at more than 25 tour stops and record a 3 to 5 minute video pitch of their venture.  Institutional investors, angels and serial entrepreneur peers then distill the field of participants to eight finalists and eventually a winner and a runner-up – selected as the ventures with the best potential for high-growth.

Binko is a thought leader in the technical areas of internetworking, cloud computing, cyber/security, data driven innovation/big data, mobile/wearable computing and GRC.  He was an early employee with PSINet – one of the first commercial Internet Service Providers (ISPs).  After exiting PSINet, Binko founded a for-profit venture accelerator named LaunchFuel serving as Chief Marketing Officer (CMO).  Binko served as VP of corporate and business development for XRiver/Xybernaut – a mobile and wearable computer company – and is an active early-stage equity investor via Gemini Venture Partners (a venture investment firm he co-founded in 2004).  He has become a recognized expert on the JOBS Act, equity crowd-funding and affinity marketing.

Binko sits on numerous corporate and industry Boards including the Software and Information Industry Association (SIIA), Public Sector Innovation Group, Onevest, the Baltimore Business Journal Cyber Advisory Board, Cyber Forum -- $1billion Cyber Challenge, Montgomery County (MD) Health IT Forum, University of Baltimore Merrick School of Business Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship.

Binko is a graduate of MindShare, an invitation-only program for CEOs of disruptive and innovative companies in hyper-growth technology sectors and serves on the MindShare Alumni Board. He also serves on the NIST Cloud Computing ‘Working Group’ tasked by the U.S. Federal Government to assist agencies in their migration to cloud computing.

“Mike Binko’s determination to connect entrepreneurs with venture capital funds supports innovation roadmapping, entrepreneurial communities, while spurring economic and workforce development across numerous industry sectors,” said Gigi Godwin, President & CEO, MCCC. “The Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce solutes his visionary leadership and his commitment to the ‘Spirit of Free Enterprise.’”
