MONTGOMERY COUNTY CHAMBER OF COMMERCE

The standards for the County’s Green Business Certification Program have been broadened to include business sectors previously ineligible. These include restaurants, cleaning companies, hotels and home-based businesses.

Twenty-six local businesses will be honored under the newly expanded program that now also recognizes businesses certified through other well-respected third party certification programs such as B Lab, Green America, the Green Restaurant Association and Green Seal.

Participants will be County Executive Ike Leggett; Maryland Secretary of the Environment Ben Grumbles; Montgomery County Department of Environmental Protection Director Lisa Feldt; County Councilmember Roger Berliner; Chamber President and CEO Gigi Godwin; representatives from the 26 newly certified businesses and from B Lab, Green America, the Green Restaurant Association and Green Seal, the four nationally-recognized certification programs that have partnered with DEP and the Chamber.

Under a related new development, the County Department of Economic Development will offer subsidies to restaurants to defray certification costs for any of the four national partner programs.
