MCCC's 52nd Annual Dinner Set for June 1; Features Major Awards, Installation of Officers

U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Earns Chamber’s Public Sector Partner of the Year Honor; Universities at Shady Grove Director, Dr. Stewart Edelstein, to Receive Visionary of Year Award; Hughes Communications’ Tom McElroy Named Recipient of Annual ‘Chairman’s Award’

ROCKVILLE, MD – The Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce (MCCC) will host its 52nd Annual Dinner on Wednesday, June 1 at the Bethesda North Marriott Hotel and County Conference Center. One of the premiere business networking events of the year, the Annual Dinner will feature the presentation of three prestigious awards, installation of the Chamber’s new officers and board members, and a cocktail reception. More than 800 guests, sponsors, business leaders and elected officials are expected to participate in this year’s event, themed: “Winning the Future.”

Among those to be recognized by the Chamber with special awards:

  • The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission will be honored as the MCCC Public Sector Partner of the Year. The NRC, headquartered in Rockville, ranked first in the "Best Place to Work in the Federal Government" survey for the past three years. Bill Borchardt, Executive Director for Operations, will accept the award on behalf of the NRC. This award is sponsored by Kaiser Permanente.
  • Dr. Stewart Edelstein, Executive Director of The Universities at Shady Grove (USG), will receive this year’s MCCC Visionary Award. A member of the Chamber Board’s Executive Committee, Dr. Edelstein has led USG during nine years of extraordinary growth and transformation. A regional higher education center of the University System of Maryland, USG brings together top academic programs from nine state universities to a single campus, serving 4,000 undergraduate and graduate students. The award is sponsored by Human Genome Sciences, Inc.
  • Thomas J. McElroy, Senior Vice President and Chief Accounting Officer, Hughes Communications, Inc. will receive the MCCC Chairman's Award for his tremendous service as the Vice-Chair of the MCCC Legislative Affairs Committee.

The Chamber will also install its new Chairman of the Board for 2011-12 – Carrie Harris-Muller, Chief Administrative Officer of the Kaiser Foundation of the Mid-Atlantic States, Inc., along with other new Chamber officers and board members.
