Recap: VIP Start April 2016

On April 5-7, 2016, the National Center for Veteran Institute for Procurement conducted its inaugural VIP START program. The program trains service-disabled veteran-owned small businesses (SDVOSB) and veteran-owned small businesses (VOSB) who want to enter or need help to expand their business growth into the federal marketplace.

The inaugural VIP START session graduated 48 veteran-owned businesses from 15 states and Washington, D.C.

The April VIP Start session featured the following topics:

  • Elements that have to be in place in order to do business with a PRIME or Government
  • Strategic Planning in the Federal Market
  • Accounting / Budgets / Developing Rates Compliance
  • Cyber Security
  • Contracting – Sub-Contracting/ RFP/ RFI
  • Operational Program Controls
  • Financing / Capital Management / Banking
  • Human Resources Management
  • Business Insurance
  • Marketing / Business Development / Proposals

The graduation ceremony featured a VIP Alumni Lessons Learned Panel Discussion with moderator Staci L. Redmon, President & CEO, Strategy and Management Services, Inc. (SAMS), and panelists Tajuddin I. Sabree, President, Sabree, Inc.; Michael King, CTO, Halfaker & Associates, LLC; Michael Kuehn, Managing Partner, MRE Technology Solutions LLC; and C.Toby Calvo, President, L1 Enterprises, Inc.
