  • The Montgomery County Department of Economic Development (DED) is a government agency housed in the executive branch.  Its mission is to establish the County as a globally competitive, highly diversified, knowledge-based economy that encourages 1) new job creation and company formation and 2) company retention and growth.  It administers a broad spectrum of services including  financial incentive programs, a Business Innovation Network, workforce programs, global trade and small business assistance, marketing and supports its robust urban and agricultural; 240-777-2000. 

Montgomery County has independent economic development entities in two municipalities:

  • Economic Development Office, City of Gaithersburg; 301-258-6310
  • Rockville Economic Development, Inc., 301-315-8096


  • The Montgomery Business Development Corporation (MBDC) is 100% publicly funded through DED as authorized by the County Council. It has an appointed board of directors from the private sector. MBDC’s focus areas include: marketing, advocacy, metrics, economic data, and business retention and expansion.; 240-399-3903.


  • The Montgomery County Green Business Certification Program recognizes businesses that have voluntarily made efforts to protect, preserve, and improve the environment.  The program focuses on day-to-day operations and management policies to foster Montgomery County business success in the green economy. The Green Business Certification Program is a unique partnership of the Montgomery County Department of Environmental Protection, The Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce, and Montgomery College.  240-777-7775
