Led by Committee Vice Chair Judy Stephenson, President of OfficePro, the Chamber’s Small Business Committee discussed corporate social responsibility and charitable contributions at their regular monthly meeting on April 27.  Jeff Capron, a Partner at Aronson LLC and Kim Jones from the Non-Profit Village spoke about a variety of strategies for businesses to contribute to charities and upstart non-profits.

Jeff Capron discussed how his business makes decisions about charitable giving and how employees are encouraged to be involved in the community.  Jeff’s company formed The Aronson Foundation, which directs its giving to charities that their employees are involved in or passionate about. Aronson LLC was awarded the Chamber’s 2010 Corporate Social Responsibility Award in November.

Kim Jones spoke about how the Non-Profit Village operates and the ways in which companies can be more involved in assisting non-profits.  She discussed non-monetary giving such as hosting speakers from different local businesses to teach accounting, strategic planning, and recruitment.  Kim also emphasized involvement in student programs such as the Montgomery County Superintendent’s Leadership program.

During the meeting, committee members discussed their current involvement in the community and in charitable contributions.  Some of the charities that committee members are involved with are The ARC of Montgomery, Leadership Montgomery, Linkage to Learning, Martha’s table, Girl Scouts of America, Homes for our Troops, and many more!
