March 13, 2014 Recap:

Guest Speaker:  Nate Lesser, Deputy Director, National Cybersecurity Center of Excellence (NCCoE), NIST

The co-chair of the Economic Development Committee, Stew Edelstein, welcomed MCCC members and introduced the guest speaker, Nate Lesser, Deputy Director, National Cybersecurity Center of Excellence (NCCoE), National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST).  Lesser presented about NCCoE’s mission, goals, and current projects.

NCCoE collaborates with innovators to provide real-world standards-based cybersecurity capabilities that address business needs. They aim to provide practical cybersecurity, increase the rate of adoption and accelerate innovation.

NCCoE seeks problems that are:

  • Broadly applicable across much of a sector, or across sectors
  • Addressable through one or more reference designs built in NCCoE labs
  • Complex enough that reference designs will be based on the combination of multiple commercially available technologies

These problems are addressed as sector-specific use cases and technology-specific building blocks.

Current use studies are in the financial services, energy, and health care sectors. These use cases include:

  1. Health Care: Mobile devices for Health IT
  2. Energy: Identity management and access
  3. Financial Services: IT asset management
  4. Financial Services: Identity management and access

To get involved with use cases at NCCoE or participate in workshops, contact Nate Lesser and the rest of the NCCoE team, email nccoe@nist.gov.
