Guest Speakers: Jerry Johnson, General Manager, WSSC; Chris Cullinan, Acting CFO, WSSC; Jim Neustadt, Director of Communications, WSSC                   

Vice-Chair of the Infrastructure and Land Use Committee, Gus Bauman, welcomed MCCC members and introduced the guest speakers Jerry Johnson, General Manager; Chris Cullinan, Acting CFO; and Jim Neustadt, Director of Communications, Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission (WSSC). The speakers discussed WSSC’s new proposal to fund infrastructure.

The purpose of the new budget and billing proposal is to be a dedicated source for infrastructure investment, raise the account maintenance fee to reflect the true costs of having a WSSC account, lower the trajectory of rate increases, and a establish customer affordability program to help those with financial hardship.

Today marks the five year anniversary of Jerry Johnson’s appointment to General Manager of WSSC and the organization has made a lot of progress in that time.  WSSC is moving toward a ‘zero stop shop’ by increasing the use of e-permitting and e-documents. The Commission is also focused on cutting costs in all aspects of the business.

Mr. Johnson and Mr. Cullinan also discussed the status of construction of large-diameter PCCP pipes. The Ad Hoc Committee on Large-Diameter PCCP Pipe created a report including recommendations, which WSSC is currently reviewing.

MCCC members had the opportunity to provide valuable input and feedback to WSSC as they prepare to host information sessions with various constituencies.
