October 29, 2014 – "Procurement Opportunities: Where the Money Is" Recap:

Guest Speaker:  Brian Friel, Government Contracts Analyst, Bloomberg LP

MCCC GovConNet Chair Kwesi Rogers welcomed MCCC members and introduced the guest speaker Brian Friel, Government Contracts Analyst, Bloomberg LP. Friel gave a presentation called, “Procurement Opportunities: Where the Money Is.”

The federal market is entering a sixth year of declining spending, but Uncle Sam is still on track to issue contracts worth more than $450 billion in 2015. This discussion examined policies and budgets driving contract dollars, who is spending money, and what they are looking for from the private sector.

Defense spending is about half of the total amount of discretionary spending. Civilian discretionary spending is relatively flat. Civilian agencies with the highest contract spending growth include: Education, SEC, SSA, Commerce, Labor, HHS, VA, NSF, State, and Judiciary.

Friel outlined when to look for RFPs for the top FY 2015 programs including estimated RFP dates and estimated award dates. Contracts on the horizon include:

  • IT Healthcare Modernization Systems
  • Enterprise System Development II
  • Alliant II and Alliant Small Business II
  • Encore III
  • ICT – 21 Recompete
  • Contract Field Team Recompete
  • SSA’s ITSCC Recompete
