Guest Speakers:  Senator Nancy King and Delegate Anne Kaiser

The vice-chair of the Economic Development Committee, Leslie Ford Weber, welcomed MCCC members and introduced the guest speakers, Senator Nancy King (D-39) and Delegate Anne Kaiser (D-14). Senator King is the Senate Chair of the Montgomery County Delegation and Delegate Kaiser is the House Chair of the Montgomery County Delegation.

King and Kaiser discussed legislative priorities for the 2015 Maryland General Assembly Legislative Session and the impact of the recent election.

As a result of the election, there are a lot of new members in the House and Senate, changes in committees and leadership roles. King and Kaiser both remarked on how legislators in Annapolis are ready to get to work with a focus on bread and butter issues.  They expressed interest hearing from constituents and the business community and getting input on how to fix perceived and real problems.

Top priorities for the Montgomery County Delegation Leadership include:

  • Transportation (Purple Line and CCT)
  • Education construction funding
  • Jobs
  • Economic development

Governor-Elect Larry Hogan plans to release his priorities when he is sworn into office.

Following an overview of priorities, King and Kaiser opened up the discussion for questions, comments and recommendations from MCCC members.
