Vice Chair Joshua Bokee, Comcast, introduced the committee and welcomed Delegate Bill Frick to the meeting. Delegate Frick represents District 16, which includes Bethesda, Potomac, and Rockville. Delegate Frick serves as the Chair of the Revenues subcommittee of the House Ways & Means Committee.

Delegate Frick spoke about the need for increased funding for transportation projects in Maryland. Last session, Delegate Frick was the lead sponsor in the House of Delegates on legislation that would raise the gas tax by 10 cents. While many local jurisdictions, Chambers of Commerce, and the State’s own Blue Ribbon Commission on Transportation Funding agree that the gas tax should be raised, a recent poll showed 85% of Marylanders opposed to an additional gas tax. Currently there are not enough votes in the House of Delegates to pass a gas tax increase.

Other issues that Delegate Frick foresees in the upcoming session are sales taxes that would apply to more services, the Governor’s jobs bill, offshore wind initiatives and Plan Maryland.
