Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Gigi Godwin joined Maryland Governor Martin O’Malley, Montgomery County Executive Isiah Leggett and an array of other elected officials, community leaders and transportation advocates for the Inter-County Connector ribbon-cutting ceremony on Monday, Feb. 21.

After more than 50 years of planning – and many decades of Chamber advocacy in support of the highway’s construction – the first phase of the ICC (now known as I-200) opened to traffic on Wednesday, Feb. 23. While celebrating the long-awaited opening of the ICC, Godwin noted the importance of keeping a focus on “what’s next” for improving the region’s transportation system, all of which depends on ensuring there is a solid, long-term funding stream to support both road and transit needs around the state.
